First destination was Costa Rica in the Middle Americas, where the couple worked together in a five-star resort hotel. This was followed by a few years in Accra, Ghana (West Africa) where Maurits worked as Rooms Division Manager for the Dutch Golden Tulip hotel chain and Anneloes was a marketing consultant in the tourism industry. Belgium was their next destination where Maurits managed a NH Hotel and Anneloes continued her marketing career.
In 2010, the couple, by then accompanied by two children, moved to Australia. In the Australian Capital Canberra, Maurits joined the Australian Mantra hotel chain and managed and opened a few properties while Anneloes discovered Philanthropic Development as a new area of work.
Next stop was Adelaide in South Australia where Maurits managed the Accor Playford Hotel through the challenging COVID years as a quarantine hotel. The team ensured that their guests had a memorable two-week stay with online yoga classes, Master Chef cooking demonstrations and live concerts in the courtyard. When guests indicated that they would happily extend their stays, the team knew they managed to make a difference.
In 2023, Maurits and Anneloes became aware of the growing trend of glamping around the world. Having explored areas on the South Coast, the South Australia Peninsulas the Flinders Ranges and Kangaroo Island, they started to dream about combining their love for nature with their passion for luxury hotel stays. They discovered the Crossover Lodge in the Netherlands and decided to create Lodges Australia. In 2026 they developed two more partnerships with De Waard Glamping in the Netherlands and Tubbo in Spain – now offering a range of outstanding glamping lodges.
While Maurits has transitioned from Accor Hotels to hospitality consultancy, Anneloes is fully focussing on Lodges Australia. Lodges are popping up in NSW, Victoria and WA where wineries and caravan park owners are offering their guests an unforgettable outdoor experience with the comfort of a luxury hotel room.
